Questions about the Refinishing Process

Why should I consider refinishing?

Surface refinishing is a cost effective makeover alternative to replacing a countertop that is worn out, damaged, hard to clean, or simply the wrong color. We will repair chips or cracks and restore the surface to look and feel like new. You’ll save money and avoid days or even weeks of demolition mess and costly replacement.

What surfaces can you refinish?

Patio pavers, concrete and stamped concrete surfaces, cabinets and countertops.

How much money can I save over replacement?

Refinishing can save you up to 75% (or more!) over the cost of replacement.

How long does it take?

A solid color or speckled finish countertop takes 3 to 5 hours and is ready to use the next day.

Is there an odor?

Solvents are a component of modern acrylic coatings that are required to give the finish its hard, lasting texture. To remove odors and aromas from the work area, we employ specialized ventilation fans. Temperature and air movement are two elements that affect how quickly an odor dissipates. In most cases, the smell goes away within 24 to 48 hours as the finish fully cures, producing a stunning, long-lasting finish! Please let us know if you are sensitive to odors that resemble those of paint so we can talk about making modifications for your service.

Questions About the Finish

How long will the new finish last?

Refinishing can extend the useful life of your fixtures for up to 10-15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Our bonding agent creates a chemical bond between old and new surfaces, assuring an extended life for your countertops.

How durable is the finish?

We use the most technologically advanced coatings available. These finishes are designed to stand up to daily use and do not require special care. However, like most manmade surfaces, a refinished surface can be chipped, cut or burned if it is abused. However, unlike these other surfaces, Renu, LLC can repair and return a refinished surface to like new.

Does it require special care?

You’ll find our care instructions are similar to those for most brand new countertops…do not use cleaners that contain abrasives, harsh acids, or bleach. Most will become worn and dull due to abrasive cleansers, not from time.

What are my color choices?

We can match any existing color or create almost any custom color you choose.

Will the surface look painted?

A refinished countertop may resemble new laminate while another technique will provide a look that resembles the more expensive natural stone or Silestone. Most people will have a difficult time telling any difference between a refinished countertop and a newly installed laminate or solid surface countertop.
